Robert Downey Jr. Back as Tony Stark in “Iron Man 3”

Robert Downey Jr. Back as Tony Stark in “Iron Man 3”

From Marvel Studios comes “Iron Man 3,” which continues the epic, big-screen adventures of the world’s favorite billionaire-inventor-Super Hero, Tony Stark aka Iron Man.

Marvel’s “Iron Man 3” pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy’s hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?

Based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book Super Hero Iron Man, who first appeared on the pages of “Tales of Suspense” (#39) in 1963 and had his solo comic book debut with “The Invincible Iron Man” (#1) in May of 1968, “Iron Man 3” returns Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark, the iconic Super Hero, along with Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper Potts, Don Cheadle as James “Rhodey” Rhodes, Guy Pearce as Aldrich Killian, Rebecca Hall as Maya Hansen, Jon Favreau as Happy Hogan and Ben Kingsley as The Mandarin.

Shane Black directs Marvel’s “Iron Man 3” and the screenplay is by Drew Pearce & Shane Black.

After the “Iron Man” and “Iron Man 2” box-office successes, the Iron Man character, once again reprised by Robert Downey Jr., was last seen in Marvel Studios critically acclaimed “Marvel’s The Avengers,” which set the all-time, domestic 3-day weekend box office record at $207.4 million. The film went on to gross over $1.6 billion worldwide, becoming Disney’s highest-grossing global and domestic release of all time and marks the studio’s fifth film to gross more than $1 billion worldwide.

The exciting thing about ‘Iron Man 3,’ is that it’s not only the culmination of the first two films, but it’s also a follow up to ‘Marvel’s The Avengers,’” says producer Kevin Feige. “It’s one of the first situations where you have a movie that is the sequel to two different films and in a way that liberates it to be more unique than anything that has come before it, which is what we’re most excited about.

In the Marvel cinematic universe, all events that happen within each film have a direct influence and consequence in future films and franchises. For Tony Stark the events and encounters he faced in “Marvel’s The Avengers” may be behind him, but he is still working hard to balance the demands of his own personal life.

For the storyline of Marvel’s “Iron Man 3,” the filmmakers decided on a “back-to-basics” tone where they could explore what Tony Stark would do if all of his money and toys were stripped away from him and he was forced to find a way back to being a Super Hero.

Early on in the development, we talked about this notion of taking Tony Stark back to basics because we wanted to see him just use his brain,” explains executive producer Louis D’ Esposito. “You want to see what he can do when the odds are against him and it makes you wonder, ‘How is he going to get out of this one?’”

Executive producer Stephen Broussard explains the filmmakers’ decision to blend two different storylines together for the film. “There are two classic stories that have appeared in the ‘Iron Man’ comics - one is older and the other is more modern,” explains Broussard. “The older is the character called The Mandarin, and he is one of the most famous villains in the franchise. The character dates back to the 1960s and we wanted Shane [Black] and Drew [Pearce] to take that idea and contemporize it for present-day audiences.”

Broussard adds, “We also wanted to combine that with another storyline in the comic called Extremis, which came out not too long before the first ‘Iron Man’ film in 2008. It deals with the biological enhancement of humans and Tony must face super-powered humans in that. So we just thought, wouldn’t that be interesting if we tried to combine these two stories into one for ‘Iron Man 3’?

An early believer in the Extremis story line, Downey Jr. says, “I remember when we were getting ready to shoot ‘Iron Man,’ I started reading ‘Iron Man’ comics and there was this one called ‘Extremis,’ and I thought it was really interesting and cool.

The thing about the Extremis storyline that always interested me in the comic books was that you had a sense that Tony Stark puts on an iron suit and hides inside it in a way,” says director Shane Black. “The character wouldn’t call it that, but that’s kind of the case. With the Extremis people, you always got a sense that they’re burning up from the inside. So one of them could actually say to Tony for instance, ‘you drive a car, I am the car.’

There is plenty of angst from “Marvel’s The Avengers” to fuel Tony Stark’s arc too. Before “Marvel’s The Avengers,” Tony Stark thought he was the only Super Hero in the world, and in “Iron Man 3” he must deal with the revelation that he is not the only one out there. As Kevin Feige explains, “In ‘Marvel’s The Avengers’ he faces a world-changing event that not only includes seeing the powers of other Super Heroes, but also having a portal to another world opened above his head.

For Robert Downey Jr. the journey of Tony Stark in the “Iron Man” franchise is one that is very relatable to audiences. “The great thing about ‘Iron Man 3’ is that we really are going back to kind of an extension and continuation of some of the things that made the franchise fly to begin with,” says Downey. “With the execution and incredible success of ‘Marvel’s The Avengers,’ we’re afforded the opportunity to not have to set up another film and can really explore the character of Tony Stark in ways that are very organic and connectable and play to the strength of the franchise.”

Opening across the Philippines on April 24 in IMAX 3D, Digital 3D and regular theatres, “Iron Man 3” is presented by Marvel Studios in association with Paramount Pictures and DMG Entertainment. Marvel Studios' President Kevin Feige is producing and Jon Favreau, Louis D'Esposito, Charles Newirth, Victoria Alonso, Stephen Broussard, Alan Fine, Stan Lee and Dan Mintz are executive producers. The film is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.

Nick (Owen Wilson) and Billy (Vince Vaughn) battle it out with the techies in “The Internship” as two old-school salesmen in their 40's who use old fashioned charm and brilliant sales technique to sell watches.  On the night that they try to close a big sale with a client, to their shock, they find that their company has been shut down because kids don’t wear watches anymore.  Suddenly, they find themselves unemployed as two dinosaurs in the digital world.

After an exhaustive job search online, Billy chanced upon an opportunity for them to reinvent themselves – an internship program with Google.

20th Century Fox now brings the latest trailer of “The Internship” tracking the misadventures of Wilson and Vaughn as they try to pass an internship interview at Google.  As seen on the trailer, the interview is conducted via Google Hangout and the two being first-time online interviewees get too close to the camera and shout loudly into the microphone.  As luck would have it, the two passes the internship interview through common sense, imagination and charm.

At Google, where it’s worlds away from anything they have experienced before, they find themselves in a sea of tech-savvy 20-year-olds who they need to compete against to win a full-time employment at Google.

They eventually team up with a sexually curious nerd, a mobile phone obsessed geek and Yoyo (Tobit Raphael) a genius Asian kid who lacks social and common life skills and Lyle who is an underdog who wants to fit in.  Going through training and competing with kids half their age, they are hell-bent to prove that it’s never too late to reinvent yourself.  The movie also stars Rose Byrne, John Goodman, Dylan O’Brien and Josh Gad.

“The Internship” opens very soon cinemas (Philippines) from 20th Century Fox.

‘The Croods’ Monument Rises at Stonehenge for Spring Solstice 2013 Celebration

‘The Croods’ Monument Rises at Stonehenge for Spring Solstice 2013 Celebration

In celebration of the Spring Solstice 2013 and in conjunction with the release of Twentieth Century Fox's 3D animation ‘The Croods’ - a family animation centered around the first ever pre historic road trip - a giant monument was erected at Stonehenge at sunrise on Tuesday 19th March.  This marks the first time a modern structure has ever been allowed on this historic site.  Recreating the original construction of Stonehenge, the local boy scouts troop will also be on hand to help roll the new colossal monument into place.

The Spring Solstice or ‘Vernal Equinox’ recognises the first day of spring and each year sees druids and pagans gather at Stonehenge early in the morning to watch the sun rise above the prehistoric stones.  This year an additional monument, in the shape of ‘The Croods’, will become part of these special celebrations at daybreak.

‘Meet the first modern family, The Croods, whose world is rocked by generational clashes and seismic shifts that come to a head on a wild road trip filled with dazzling adventures, amazing firsts (like fire…and shoes), never before seen creatures and the epic discovery that they’ll have to stay one step ahead of the ever-changing world or get left in the prehistoric dust.’

Notes to Editors

The Croods is a 3D comedy adventure that follows the world's first modern family through the journey of a lifetime. The Croods is in cinemas 22 March 2013.

DreamWorks Animation SKG presents The Croods. The film is directed by Chris Sanders & Kirk DeMicco, and produced by Kristine Belson and Jane Hartwell.  The screenplay is by Kirk DeMicco & Chris Sanders, with a story by John Cleese, Kirk DeMicco and Chris Sanders. The music is by Alan Silvestri.

The film stars Nicolas Cage as Grug, Ryan Reynolds as Guy, Emma Stone as Eep, Catherine Keener as Ugga, Clark Duke as Thunk, and Cloris Leachman as Gran.

The Croods presents an age known as the Croodaceous Period, which, says DeMicco, “fell between the Jurassic Age and the ‘Katzenzoic Era’– at least according to DreamWorks archaeologists.” It is a world of visual splendor and grandeur that holds innumerable challenges for the beleaguered clan.

“Iron Man 3” Characters

“Iron Man 3” Characters

The official character descriptions of “Iron Man 3” have just been shared by Marvel Studios. While careful not to reveal key plot twists, the descriptions are nevertheless informative and compelling. Let the guessing game begin!

Starring Robert Downey, Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall, with Jon Favreau and Ben Kingsley, “Iron Man 3” is directed by Shane Black from a screenplay by Drew Pearce & Shane Black and is based on Marvel's iconic super hero Iron Man, who first appeared in the pages of "Tales of Suspense #39" in 1963 and had his solo comic book debut with "The Invincible Iron Man #1" in May of 1968.

TONY STARK/IRON MAN [Robert Downey Jr.]. Eccentric genius, billionaire, philanthropist Tony Stark is the armored super hero known as Iron Man. Decompressing from his heroic, near-self-sacrificial action as Iron Man that saved New York City from annihilation, Tony finds himself unable to sleep and plagued by worry and trepidation. When his world is destroyed and those closest to him threatened, Tony must find a way to save them—and in the process find himself again.

PEPPER POTTS [Gwyneth Paltrow]. Pepper has progressed from Tony Stark’s assistant to the head of Stark Industries, pausing along the way to fall in love with Tony as well. Bright, loyal and honest, Pepper understands Tony Stark more than anyone and sometimes that can be both a worrisome and a dangerous thing.

COL. JAMES RHODES (RHODEY) [Don Cheadle]. Rhodey is the Liaison between Stark Industries and the U.S. Air Force. He is one of Tony Stark’s few trusted friends and, most of the time, has the patience to deal with the impulsive genius. Rhodey has a new suit of War Machine armor in a red, silver and blue patriotic design. When suited up, Rhodey becomes Iron Patriot.

MANDARIN [Ben Kingsley]. Mandarin is the sinister head of the terrorist organization known as The Ten Rings, from which all the acts of extreme terrorism plaguing the world appear to emanate. Although he is reclusive, Mandarin wields great power and makes his presence known by striking fear in the government and the populace through his brazen plans of attack.

ALDRICH KILLIAN [Guy Pearce]. Through his privately funded organization A.I.M., Aldrich Killian created a team to further research and develop the Extremis virus, which imparts unusual levels of strength and resiliency to human subjects.

DR. MAYA HANSEN [Rebecca Hall]. Beautiful Dr. Maya Hansen is a brilliant botanist whose work helped create the game-changing biological process called Extremis. Her discovery has the power to change the human body, but it could be very dangerous if misused.

HAPPY HOGAN [Jon Favreau]. Happy is the trusted bodyguard and chauffeur in charge of protecting Pepper Potts. More of a friend than an employee, Happy always has Tony’s back too, even when the eccentric billionaire doesn’t think he needs him. Steadfast and loyal, Happy would do anything to keep Pepper and Tony safe.

“The Great Gatsby” Opens the 66th Cannes Film Festival

“The Great Gatsby” Opens the 66th Cannes Film Festival

It is on “The Great Gatsby” by Australian director Baz Luhrmann, that the curtain will rise at the inauguration of the 66th Festival de Cannes, on Wednesday 15th May, in the Grand Théâtre Lumière of the Palais des Festivals, out of Competition in the Official Selection.

Adapted from the famous novel by American author Francis Scott Fitzgerald and set against the roaring twenties on the East Coast of the United States, the film depicts the romantic and tragic figure of Jay Gatsby (Leonardo DiCaprio), as narrated by his friend Nick Carraway (Tobey Maguire). Carey Mulligan is Daisy Buchanan, whose husband is played by Joel Edgerton. This prestigious occasion will also be graced with the presence of Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan, as well as the American pop star, rapper Jay-Z.

"It is a great honor for all those who have worked on `The Great Gatsby' to open the Cannes Film Festival. We are thrilled to return to a country, place and festival that has always been so close to our hearts, not only because my first film `Strictly Ballroom' was screened there 21 years ago, but also because F. Scott Fitzgerald wrote some of the most poignant and beautiful passages of his extraordinary novel just a short distance away at a villa outside Saint-Raphaël."

Produced by Warner Bros. Pictures and Village Roadshow Pictures, the film was scripted by Baz Luhrmann and his faithful co-screenwriter Craig Pearce, based on Fitzgerald’s 1925 novel.

The opening film will be screened in 3D – for the second time during the history of the Festival, following `Up' by Pete Docter, in 2009.

On the same day the Festival gets underway – Wednesday 15th May – “The Great Gatsby” will also open in cinemas nationwide. Both in France and internationally, the film will be distributed in 2D and 3D by Warner Bros. Pictures and in certain regions by Village Roadshow Pictures.

Born in 1962 in Australia, Baz Luhrmann has twice been honoured by the Festival de Cannes for “Strictly Ballroom” (Un Certain Regard in 1992) and for “Moulin Rouge!” at the 54th Festival, in 2001, at an opening which is unlikely to be forgotten any time soon.

Leonardo DiCaprio (Jay Gatsby) has rarely been seen on the Croisette. He returns to Cannes for the first time since the 2007 presentation of “The 11th Hour,” a documentary on ecological issues which the actor himself produced.

Opening across the Philippines on May 15, “The Great Gatsby” will be distributed in IMAX® 3D, Digital 3D and regular format by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.
