Award-winning Filipina artist Lea Salonga added another feather on her cap as she received The Outstanding Filipino Americans in New York Awards' Heritage Award (TOFA-NY), which was recently held at Carnegie Hall.
Salonga is one of the 12 individuals and organizations who were given awards for their exemplary contributions to city's energy and spirit.
Salonga's Heritage Award was given to her because of her unending support to Filipino culture.
TOFA-NY gives recognition to individuals and organizations that have raised the profile of the Filipino American community in a unique and positive way.
"I am happy to be in this community…I'm glad to be here and thankful to everyone - mom, friends, community," said Salonga.
The Tony Award-winning Salonga was also recently named a Disney Legend for her vocal recordings as Princess Jasmine and Mulan in "Aladdin" and "Mulan" respectively.
Aside from Salonga, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Jose Antonio Vargas was also an awardee.
Meanwhile, ABS-CBN North America correspondent Don Tagala won the award for 'Media and Publishing"
"I'm grateful to Balitang America and the whole team for everything that they've extended to me," Tagala said.
