After seven days of online polling through the microsite www.gmanetwork.com/trending2011, this year's top newsmakers are about to be revealed this Saturday, December 31, 2011 in GMA 7's Trending 2011: The GMA News and Public Affairs Yearend Special.
Join veteran journalist Mike Enriquez with special co-host Dingdong Dantes as they host the network's first ever interactive yearend special.
Find out who topped the list according to the public's choice in five different categories: Newsmakers, Shocking Crimes, World News, For the Win (Sports) and Showbiz and the Arts.
In the newsmakers category, the voters chose from six nominees namely: President Benigno Simeon Aquino III, Congresswoman Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, Department of Justice Sec. Leila de Lima, Audit Commissioner Heidi Mendoza, former senator Juan Miguel Zubiri and Chief Justice Renato Corona.
On the shocking crimes category, it was the mall shooting incidents and crimes involving celebrities that grabbed headlines in 2011.
Nominees in the world news category include the death of Osama Bin Laden, the execution of Filipinos in China , the Japan tsunami, the Royal Wedding of Kate Middleton and Prince William, the death of Muammar Gaddafi and the fall of Hosni Mubarak.
Meanwhile, in the sports category, the public chose among boxing champ Manny Pacquiao, the national football team Philippine Azkals, the courageous Philippine Dragonboat Team or the emerging rugby team Philippine Volcanoes.
In the final category, showbiz and the arts, some of the biggest and hottest news for the year include the controversial "Poleteismo" of Mideo Cruz, Filipina beauties who bagged various beauty titles, the epicserye Amaya, Eat Bulaga's dominance, and Showbiz Breakups are the nominees.
