Tropical Storm Sendong: PAGASA Update December 18, Sunday


At 11:00 a.m. today, Tropical Storm "SENDONG" continues to move westward in the West Philippine Sea and is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) tonight.

Tropical Depression Sendong is estimated based on satellite and surface data at 230 km West Northwest of Puerto Princesa City (10.4°N, 116.8°E) with maximum sustained winds of 65 kph near the center and gustiness up to 80 kph and is moving West at 24 kph.

Sunday Evening: Expected to be at 470 km West Northwest of Puerto Princesa City and outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).


Public Storm Warning Signals elsewhere are now lowered.

Residents in low lying and mountainous areas under Public Storm Warning Signals are alerted against possible flashfloods and landslides. Likewise, those living in coastal areas are alerted against big waves or storm surges generated by this tropical cyclone.

Estimated rainfall amount is from 10 - 15 mm per hour (heavy) within the 300 km diameter of the Tropical Storm.

Fishing boats and other small seacrafts are advised not to venture out into the sea.
