Typhoon Glenda Storm Surge Declares in 21 Areas in Luzon, Bicol, Visayas Region

At least 21 areas in Southern Luzon, Bicol and Eastern Visayas are at risk of storm surges due to Typhoon Glenda (Rammasun), state-run Project NOAH said Tuesday.

As of 10:00 am Tuesday, Typhoon Glenda was located east-northeast of Catarman, Northern Samar, or 160 km east southeast of Legazpi City. It was carrying maximum sustained winds of 120 kph and gustiness of up to 150 kph, according to PAGASA'S 11:00 am update. Glenda is moving west at 24 kph and is expected to make landfall over Albay-Sorsogon area on Tuesday afternoon, PAGASA said in their 11:00 AM forecast.

 

Project NOAH, in a blog post, indicated the storm surge generated by Typhoon Glenda could reach as high as 3.5 meters in some areas.

 

Storm surges from super Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) in November 2013 reached as high as five to six meters or 16 to 19 feet.
